The formulation of this vision stems from the revelation received by our Pastor, marking the transition from an Indonesian prayer group to an international church embracing believers from all nations. These revelations find their grounding in Isaiah 49:6, which states:

he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

and also Isaiah 56:7b

…for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.

To realize our vision, the church adheres to three foundational principles known as the ‘Three Pillars.’ These pillars represent the core values that guide the daily lives of our congregation as followers of Christ. They are as follows:

The 3 Pillars of Lighthouse Church

Lighthouse Church is guided by values found in the Bible, particularly in the book of Acts 20:20 & 31

20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.

31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

This passage tells us the way how Paul the apostle reached out to people. He didn’t just preach to crowds; he visited homes and spent time personally teaching and warning individuals. We also look at how Jesus taught not only large groups but also had close relationships with His disciples through intense community and having them follow Him in order to become more and more like Him.

Taking inspiration from these examples and also inspired by other churches we’re connected with, Lighthouse Church believes that being a Christian is about more than just going to church on Sundays. It’s about living every day in a way that follows God and His teachings, through tight-knit communities, discipleship, and sharing His gospel wherever we go.

Discipleship

At Lighthouse Church, we firmly believe that being a follower of Jesus inherently entails embracing discipleship. Unlike the belief that discipleship is a subsequent phase of spiritual life or a formal program, we hold that it is an essential aspect of every single believer’s journey.

Our understanding of discipleship centers on a three-fold process:

  • walking with Christ
  • learning from Christ
  • Being transformed to be more like Christ

However, we recognize the challenges of this journey and advocate for the practice of pairing mentors, who are people more advanced in their spiritual journey, and disciples together in what we would call 1-on-1 discipleship. Drawing from biblical models like apostle Paul and Timothy, we emphasize the value of 1-on-1 discipleship to cultivate accountability and to provide personalized guidance and support to navigate the complexities of spiritual growth.

Community

In Lighthouse Church, we firmly believe that the heartbeat of our community resides within our small group gatherings, better known in our church as ‘Connect Groups’. These groups serve as vibrant hubs where deep bonds are formed, prayers are shared, and mutual care is extended. Beyond mere social gatherings, our Connect Groups serve as incubators for spiritual growth and service. Here, the diverse gifts bestowed upon each member are nurtured and deployed for the edification of the Body of Christ.

At the core of our Connect Groups lies a commitment to the ‘one-another’ lifestyle prescribed in Scripture. Far more than just venues for Bible study or fellowship, these groups are dynamic spaces where every individual plays an active role. As we gather, each member contributes their unique gifts and experiences the blessing of God in community.

Moreover, with Connect Group meetings taking place on various days and in different locations, there’s a perfect fit for everyone’s schedule. Mission

At our church, we are deeply committed to fulfilling the Great Commission as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20. We firmly believe that being a disciple of Christ involves not only receiving and blessing one another within the church community but also actively making disciples and spreading the Gospel message. To accomplish this mission, we employ various strategies aimed at reaching people with the love of Christ.

We actively utilize events as platforms to invite individuals to encounter the message of hope and redemption found in Jesus Christ. Additionally, we encourage our Connect Groups to engage in evangelistic activities as a community, fostering a culture of outreach and discipleship. Moreover, we actively participate in events organized by external organizations within the city of Aachen, seizing opportunities to connect with the broader community and share the Gospel message.

Furthermore, our commitment to spreading the Gospel extends beyond the city limits of Aachen. We are involved in church planting initiatives in different cities and regions across Germany and Europe. Through church planting and equipping individuals for ministry, we aim to establish thriving communities of faith where people can encounter God’s love and grow as disciples of Christ.

We maintain a steadfast belief in the interconnectedness of our Three Pillars. These foundational values are not isolated principles but rather integral components that harmoniously collaborate towards the fulfillment of our vision—to build a strong missional church. Their interconnectedness can be seen below.
